Clarks Grade
« on: December 11, 2015, 06:47:15 AM »
I have been interested in doing Clark's Grade in the San Bernadino National Forest for some time now. Clark's Grade in Big Bear is also known as 1N54. This trail runs from Highway 38 up towards Big Bear Lake. It meets Skyline Drive at the top of the mountain.

The Forest Service closes this trail in the winter. Top of the trail is smooth and easy but starts to get narrow with some decent size rocks and ruts towards the middle and 500 foot sheer drop offs.

With the closure for the winter months and the holidays who would be interested in doing Clark's Grade after it opens back up next year?

That's a fun trailer, we did it a few years ago as part of a night run at CANVAZ.  Those drops are extra fun in pitch black.
Be careful when you follow the masses..... sometimes the "M" is silent.

Looks like a fun road. I'd be in for a trip. Not sure when you were planning this for, but if we get the winter weather that all of the experts are predicting, the road could be closed well into April. Couple that with the Mojave Road trip already planned for spring, and you might want to consider May or even June.

Yeah weather is going to play a big role in this event. A friend of the company I work for (Gunfighter Tactical) we work with a photographer in Orange County. He recently purchased a Ford E350 and has converted it for overland expeditions. If they bring their cameras we could get some really good pictures from this trip.

Clarks is awesome in the snow. I was trying to put a run together last year but it never snowed :(
I definitely plan on heading out there this winter.

This weekend, it's supposed to snow down to 4,500ft. I think it's going to be a phenomenal snow year.

I am getting my Cooper Discoverer STT Pro Thursday.

If you get up there this weekend take plenty of pictures. Toro I thought they closed Clarks Grade during the winter?

They sometimes close the gate at the top of Radford truck trail. The trip up there and back, in the snow, is adventure enough.
