Excellent!  But I think I will leave the Markers Mark bourbon at home this time.

Very glad to have you along, the West to East (1st run) has filled up so I started a standby list. Should someone not be able to attend you will be first on it (PM sent).

And you thought I was nuts when I didn't partake in the libations at the Mountain Rendezvous.......

Were just shy of 5 months out for this trip. I'm thinking it will be as much of a blast as it was last year. I wanted to get some discussion going for everyone attending. My thoughts are much the same as last year. Bring everything you need to be self sufficient for the trip. Think about 10 gallons of extra fuel, especially for delays. If you want to have group meals which is popular with this group plan them prior to heading out with your buddies. With winter conditions it's not always going to be the best of conditions to feed the masses which is why I stress self sufficiency. That being said I will do everything I can to get us to our camp a couple hours before sunset so please understand if I ask that we get moving. If your vehicle is in need of repairs please get them taken care of before we head out. There is a lot of great experience on this trip but I'd rather not have breakdowns due to improper maintenance. If something does happen you won't be left out there, I'm just asking for a little preventative maintenance. The whole trip isn't very grueling or taxing on vehicles but going into it be prepared with what you might need as we will be not so close to assistance is good. Think lots of extra warm stuff, wool, water barriers, extra tent stakes and guy lines to secure everything in adverse weather. I would like to have a campfire each night and Fire Jenga is always welcomed, so bring wood and lots of it. If you are warming your backside by the fire but didn't contribute to the firewood pile, well you know the drill. If you would like to take some alternate routes, I'm all ears. This trip is very flexible and the focus is on enjoyment so give me your ideas to see what we can come up with. Most of us have wheeled and camped together sharing a lot of laughs. If you are new to the group or this run know that you are most welcomed and everyone will do what they can to ensure you have a great time and complete the trip safely. I'm really looking forward to this so fire away with any questions or comments you may have to myself or Sage Bromax (Red Team Leader) to make this another memorable trip with SCCX.

My only suggestion is let's make sure we bring enough wood for the mornings as well.  I remember last year us all huddling around the little fire we had to get the cold out of our bones in the mountain camp.

So hopefully this be my first overall trip if job don't hinder it.  I'm not to savy with this camping for 3 days or having the equipment like those grills and such. So if someone could post up some of the stuff they recommend maybe a sight. I've seen pics but no clue what it's called. I was literally thinking I life off sandwiches for 3days maybe cold meals

  Agreed......

Or save some of the wood from that nights Fire Jenga shenanigans, but that would be Sacrilege.

I'm 100% sure you will not hinder anyone on the trail. It's a lot of fun to get folks out there and expose them to this kind of trip. You don't have to live off of sammiches the whole time. There are a lot of ways to make some great food out there. I would recommend you bring plenty of snivel gear because it can get good and cold out there at night or the day for that matter. At least one night there is a real possibility of snow camping depending on how much it has been snowing in the New York mountains. A good tent and sleeping bag/pad is a must unless you are going to sleep inside your X where you can get away with a little less, but I would still recommend having those things along. Each night we have fires so you can cook plenty of interesting foods over that or put charcoal on the ground with a folding grill. Everyone will have portable stoves out there and I'm sure you can share some space on one of those, mine included.

What we are planning for my families dinners is cutting up meat with vegetables and season everything with a little butter and wrapping it in heavy duty foil. When the coals are hot were going to put rocks in between the coals and lay the foil meals over them. In no time they will be cooked and not only give you something nutritious but very tasty and hot. No prep work and cleanup is a fork and toss the foil into the trashbag. That's just one idea for you to mull over. You can get to Wallyworld, REI etc and get freeze dried meals that all you have to do is add boiling water and wait about 10 minutes. I like this method as well but I'm also a guy that still likes MRE's. There is a camping recipe food section on these boards that may help you get some ideas as well. I'd be glad to discuss any of this with you and answer any questions you may have. The food truck Thursdays are also perfect for this because with a little pre-planning the guys can bring gear to show you. I would suggest some form of folding camp chair as we do a lot of hanging out by the fires so rocks get uncomfortable after awhile to sit on. There are plenty of folks going that have extra gear, myself included who might be able to loan out some gear for the trip. Don't jump out there and spend a ton of cash on stuff you might not need.

I would recommend going on some of the overnight or two night runs that will start happening in our local deserts once the weather cools off a little more. You will get a great idea of what you might need or what works for you. I go out there a lot and so do a few others. Those runs all get posted up for you to attend. On this Mojave run there is no facilities, toilets, water, fuel etc once you leave Afton Campground and again until you reach Laughlin. Carrying an additional 5 gallons of fuel on a can is highly advisable depending upon what your mileage is. probably a good 5 gallons of water for drinking, washing and some spare in case is never a bad idea out there. I usually toss in a gallon or two of Gatorade. You can get gallon sized drinking water instead of buying a 5 gallon jug that's a little more unwieldy. I will often recycle the 1/2 gallon Arizona tea jugs with water for dishes, washing or spare drinking water. They pack up really easy. It's good you are thinking about this now and asking these questions. I think in the end you will be very glad you went on this trip as it's a lot of fun!

Celt's suggestion about the food truck Thursday night event had me check my calendar.  In October, the Friday after the monthly meet, I am heading to Arizona for a geology recon trip.  My vehicle will be prepped and I would be happy to show you what I am carrying for a 4-day off-road trip.  This will also be the Thursday after CANVAZ (which I am going to, along with some others) and the alternate Steeevo trip http://www.sccxterra.com/smf/index.php?topic=3990.0

There could be several people that could give you some good info on prepping for TMR.

Sounds good  hahaha trust me I had the idea on getting a box of MREs and that's that hahaha but sounds good. I wanted to sleep in the X but don't want to pack the inside with excess stuff like a BBQ grill and all that Hut hopefully I'll have a roof rack set up by then. So we shall see

It's a lot easier than you might think. You will get by just fine on the run and with a little forethought and pre-planning you will be able to do it in comfort.
