Interesting.  I don't really know too much about rifle cartrigdes, but I have never heard of someone using the 5.45 round.  Either way, you make a very compelling argument for that round!

Thanks, I like to do a little research on the round and weapon before I buy it. I took me over a year to decide on what route to go with for my AR. And instead of buying a off the shelf one I built my own. My two baby's are my AR and Kimber.

Talk about weird rounds, I've never heard of the 5.7 x 28.  Looks like a .223 short?

I don't really believe in posting pics of my "registered" firearms on Al Gore's baby...suffice to say if you visit my house "unannounced" I will welcome you with "open arms".

Yeah, one of the variants of the Remington 870 has been in my sights while researching, but I have a feeling it's gonna be slippery slope; then it'll be a rifle for long distance, then a pistol to do three-gun competitions, then I'll need a second job to fund all of it...  :D

That's some time in deciding what route to go. I'd say you did some solid homework! I've been debating building an AR or waiting for a SCAR to come back in stock... it's a tough decision!

Talk about weird rounds, I've never heard of the 5.7 x 28.  Looks like a .223 short?

It is definitely an interesting round.  It's practically a mini .223.  The 5.7 round is designed to have rifle-like ballistics.  If I'm not mistaken, I believe this round has the highest velocity for a pistol cartridge.  For the 5.7 to really shine, it needs to be placed into perspective for what platform it was made for, which is a full auto P90 with a 50 round magazine.  Very low recoil, high velocity, and with the right versions (AP versions) are devastating.  As a bonus, the Secret Service uses it!

Alex, it truly is a slippery slope.  One is definitely not enough!!! Before you know it, you'll be buying (or trying to buy) a new gun quarterly!

Well I am heading out for shooting/camping tonight but I think we should look into who would be interested, find a suitable date, and then find a central location. Day of shooting and grilling...

Or everyone can come to my neck of the woods to Burro Canyon. we can get a private range for $25/person and we can bbq

I'd be a fan of a range day..   As of Burro Canyon.  I'm kind of on the fence,  The last time I was there there were some shady people.. Saw a lot of the sideways gangster shooting and people who didn't practice any type of gun safety..   Hopefully those kind of people aren't there anymore.

This^^ is why we ONLY run a private range. We it is double the price but worth every penny. plus since we know the people up there quite well we usually have no problem getting the North 1 range which is off to the side and there isn't usually anyone on the other ranges over there.

And what about shooting areas like the one along our 2N02 trail, a couple miles from the top of the trail? Would that be an OK place to go to target practice some shotgun rounds?

The advantage of doing it up at 2N02 is that we could make a cleanup day out of it as well. We wouldn't be guaranteed the privacy, but it's a relatively quiet area normally and I'm sure we'd run any idiots out of there (as in, people doing stupid stuff that we wouldn't want to be around) if we show up with a good sized group. Especially since it's our adopted trail and we'd be cleaning the area up afterward.
