So I have been looking into the best way to paint the bare metal sliders and people are telling me that it will be quite the chore to do. This is due to the mill scaling that will be on the sliders when they are done. I emailed WK and asked their process and they said they get sand blasted before the powder coat is applied. I'm debating adding on the Powder Coat to my order since I don't  have access to a grinder/sander wheel to remove the mill scale.

I have read that people use acetone or brake cleaner to wipe down the sliders before applying self etching primer and then paint. But based off of the feedback on "the other forum", it doesn't sound like the process I just described would work out that well.

For what it's worth, it depends on what you are painting it with. If you go the bedliner route, mill scale doesn't really matter that much as bedliner has texture to it.

Painting is all about the prep work, the best painters i've seen, prep the longest. It's a lot of work, but the benefit and product is much better.

Like he said. It's about the prep. I just plan to do a quick wet sand down with acetone then prime them 3times then cover in plasti dip since its only going to scratch the bottom. That's what ima do.

I guess what my issue is, I have no idea of what mill scale looks like. I have been trying to find pictures of it. I was planning on using a Rustoleum Hammer finish paint, which has a mild texture to it. Will that be enough to blend in with the mill scale? I have no idea.

I decided to add on Powder Coating to my order. The more I thought about me trying to find the time to prep and paint these things, the less likely it seemed plausible for me. I'm getting excited for these to be ready!

Just spoke to WK today and found out that their bare metal sliders will be delivered with the mill scale removed and a fine layer of oil that can be removed with Dawn detergent or acetone!
