Air Locker
« on: July 08, 2016, 10:14:17 AM »
A couple of questions here:

Which exact ARB rear locker would I purchase for my 06' Xterra SE 4x4? Not sure if my axle is C200 or C200K (makes a difference?).

Anybody know of any shops in SoCal that can install for good price. One local shop quoted me $850 to install both ARB air compressor and rear locker. I was also referred to a shop in Fresno and they quoted my $475. Huge difference!!!

Check Unitrax in Anaheim.
Be careful when you follow the masses..... sometimes the "M" is silent.

The ARB RD-149 Air locker should fit right in as you have a Dana 44 variant rear differential for that year and model. The quote of $850 to install the locker and air compressor isn't too far off but a little pricey. They probably billed for a full 8 hours work for one tech to do the work. Depending upon how you want the compressor set up it can get a little tricky and time consuming to set it all up and run the lines properly. The $475 is a really good deal in my opinion. Either way you will be very satisfied with that ARB locker it's quality stuff.

I'm pretty sure I don't have the Dana 44 (m226). I have the C200(k).

06 was a Dana 44 variant unless something funky went on.

He has an SE, C200k.  Only Offroad models and manual transmission came with M226...only jeepers call them dana.

Just for giggles:
Check the sticker on the drivers door jam, look for "AXLE CODE", you should find one of these numbers,

C200 axle...
CA33
CA31
CA29

M226...
CC33
CC31
CC35
CC36

The 2 digits in the code refer to the axle ratio, for instance the CA33 axle has a 3.36 final drive ratio.

I may have read the post incorrectly between the "S" and "SE" models. From what I understand is the "S" model is a Dana-44 variant and the ARB RD-149 locker should fit without worry. Maybe us JeeperCreeper/Xterra crossover owners speak a different language? :) That Dana 44 and it's variants are the industry standard out the door for any of our vehicles (Until you want to get into the big boy D-60's) but that is another story. I'm always thankful for folks with more knowledge than I may have especially when someone is doing modifications. I'm pretty good when the rubber meets the road and the planets are in alignment but the little nuiances to make the whizbangs and flux capacators run I gladly pass on the wand to those such as Knightrider.

In the end nothing warms a heart as a Dana 60 in the rear and a 44 in the front.

Bronco Guys also say Dana and never refer to themselves as Jeepers.
I got my rear Dana 44 out of an Isuzu  ;)

All 4x4 manual transmission X'S have an M226. The OR or P4X's are locked and the rest are open.
Auto trans models are more traditional. All (incl 2wd) = C200k, P4X/OR=M226.
   Frontiers are a different story.
