Made a Run for the Border (Junk Yards)
« on: August 08, 2016, 11:40:06 AM »
Saturday, a friend and I spent a few hours in the junk yards for misc. parts he needed for the 05 X he just bought.  We checked out ~20 Xterras and a few Frontiers.  Most had plenty of parts left and most body panels.  His has a dent in a door and he was interested in just buying a replacement but we did not find any Yellow ones.  Its an interesting challenge finding the Xterras as there are dozens of smaller yards.  You have to ask at each one you find where else there may be some.  We managed to find most all the things we needed including rear cup holders and the smaller front cup holder inserts.  We managed to find some things we did not know we needed as well.  I grabbed an extra tool to lower the spare tire so I can keep it handier.  Since the last time I was there about 5 months ago, there are several new wrecks.  If you are looking for something in particular, let me know, I may remember if I saw it and where it was.  I did find 3 hitches, only one was complete with wiring.

I remember 2 of them being 4x4.  Almost all of them had the engines and drive train removed. but I did see the transfer case sitting in the back of one of them, and another I noticed the 4x4 dash knobs and switches.  I know there was one with fog lamps but I did not notice if the switch was there.

Just an FYI, some other nissan models use the same turn signal stalk.  I got one for SteveC from a sentra.

I am pretty sure neither of the two 4x4 models were Off road/pro4X so probably no on the 3.69 axle.

If anyone goes to the Junk Yards in the LA area and finds a 2nd Gen yellow with the passenger read door intact, please let me know.  I don't even know where they are up there?

If you find an X that has the overhead console with the Bluetooth mic, I could use the cover panel. Let me know if you find something and I'll send PayPal your way.

So I think I decided to make another run for the border tomorrow to pick up a couple more items for my son's X.  Anyone want me to grab something that is easy and if so, what is your max $

Anyone know if it is simple to change the map light from the lights only to the bigger one with the sunglasses holder.  Looks like it might just be cutting the 2 cross members that make the hole smaller and cutting the headliner?

Yup, it's that simple. If you remove the headliner, you don't even have to cut the cross member that holds the existing light (you can just unbolt it). If you don't want to drop the liner, you can cut it easily with tin snips, but it'll always be sharp if you ever have to reach your hand up into the headliner for anything (ask me how I know!).

Dave's #1 yard has probably a dozen of those Tacomas. They specialize in trucks of all flavors.
