Cerro Gordo And Salt Trams Trip 2017
« on: October 21, 2016, 07:27:33 AM »
This is the preliminary post, to get people on notice of a potential trip.  Sign-ups are not yet open.  Vehicle and driver skill requirements have yet to be established.  I haven't been on this trail in almost 15 years, so I need to do a recon to see what the conditions are like.

When:   Memorial Day Weekend May 26-29, 2017
Where:   Overnight in Lone Pine on May 26
           Meet at Swansea ghost town trailhead 0900 May 27 – 36.5245, -117.905
Camping Saturday night at 9800’ elevation, 36.6414, -117.9232 (or nearby)
Camping Sunday night at 7700’ elevation, 36.552, -117.796 (or nearby)
What:   Historic salt trams (36.608, -117.854) and mining town (36.538, -117.795)
Who:   Fifteen vehicle limit due to space, time and cat herding limits

Things we will see:
Salt trams:

Do we have to bring a full body bug suit and single malt too?? In all seriousness, this looks like it's shaping up to be a really nice trip. I'm thinking about going up a day or two before and camping up at or near Whitney Portal then can jump down to Lone Pine for the meet up. Heck even the night before meet up for pizza and beers at Lone Pine Pizza. For anyone who hasn't experienced Lone Pine Pizza, well you haven't experienced it.

Or, you could go to this event and save the fuel money and convoy out to GONE with me the next year..........

Looks like tons of fun. After reviewing trail maps n such, I can say I won't be able to go since I do read (lockers may be needed). With that said I will continue working on my X, If by any chance I get some drivetrain sorted out (maybe rear locker upgrade) there could be a good chance. I'm not throwing the white flag yet, being positive and use this as an excuse to get my drivetrain sorted. Crossing my fingers boys!

If I'm here in '18, I'll still convoy with you. This is something I've been trying to get to for a long time. I also already have a reservation with a few other people for a condo.

This trip looks awesome, I might have to make a mini trip out there sometime.
