9/26-27 Hungry Valley/ Los Padres
« on: September 10, 2009, 08:07:24 PM »
Have some ideas for 9/26-27 at Hungry Valley OHV & Los Padres NF trails around Frazier Park, Lockwood so who's interested :D

Meet: 9/26 @ 10am McDonald's
25323 CHIQUELLA LN, NEWHALL, CA 91381-2210

2nd meet 9/26 at the Hungry Valley OHV Gorman entrance parking lot before the booth if needed.

Saturday run is inside the Hungry Valley OHV.  Variety of trails for all levels plus a fun 4x4 practice area.   Normally we hit the big hill climbs under the power lines, cottonwood trail, etc on the way to the practice area,

Camp at: Chuchupate Campground
Located three miles from the Chuchupate Ranger Station off Frazier Mountain Road (FS 8N04).  Behind the camp are the trails we can run sat twlight or sunday:

West Frazier Mine Road
Rocky four-wheel drive road which passes several old mining areas. Connects Lockwood Valley Road, Lockwood Creek Road and West Frazier Tie Road

West Frazier Tie
Steep four wheel drive road connecting West Frazier Mine Road with road 8N42on top of Frazier Mountain

Please post up or if you have other ideas, suggestions, etc so we can get something going for sept.

I am going to lead the Saturday run like I did last year around Hungry Valley ORV area. We might try a different trail as the one we took was more suitable to Honda CR-Vs rather than Xterras. There were a few newbies out that day and it made for a nice shake down but even dead stock the Xterra can do more. Maybe the Pronghorn Trail which is moderate "narrow, tippy, and steep in places", 12.7 miles, about 2 hours. Might have time to do the powerline trail too south to north then play on the 4WD practice area.

I'm up for Sunday, I/son have football game Sat.
"Out of every 100 men you send us, 10 should not even be here, 80 are nothing but targets, 9 are real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they the battle make. Ah, but the one, one of them is a warrior, and he will bring the others back.

Don't know if I'll be there yet but it would be nice to see you and Emily again.
I eat other peoples food.  It's a sickness.

Edited 1st post with more details.  Both days:  easy, moderate, to as difficult as you want to make the trails, otherwise stock friendly :D

Changed up the camp to make it different then last year but you can always ride up alamo mt and camp at twin pines if you don't feel like heading back to the 5 & frazier park.

aye, it would be good to see every one again. I'm going to tentatively say we'll be there, but no guarantees. I'll even bust my balls trying to get my sammi working as a day in HV would be a good test run.

I am a possible since this is in my backyard. I have test the new setup anyhow. Saturday only have to work Sunday, unless the birds don't want to play right on Friday.

Chris let me know I can lend a wrench since you are close. Also have access to base and lifts with tools etc..

Thanks Chris, I don't think it's going to be practicle for me to get the sammi done safely, I'd hate to run into problems on the trail and make everyone one else wait for me. some other day! (oh no, more 4x4 trips, what a shame) I'd rather take my time and get it done right.

I need to take out the rear 3-rd member and take it to a diff shop to find out what's wrong with it.

I need a longer brakeline in the rear before I can go play.  In additional I have a broken EVAP line.  So the check engine light is on.

It's going to be hot out there so bring plenty of water and keep an eye on the campfire if you have one.

Hopefully I will make the trip next month.
