Topic: Shop Air Compressors

Need some opinions on which air compressor (for your home shop) you bought and why?

Brands, SCFM/HP ratings, accessories, etc.

Leaning towards Harbor Freight, but see a few options with Craftsman/Husky/Kobalt as well.

Air tools for skid plate/wheel removal/general maintenance/tire air up/mtn. bike tubeless bead seating are my priorities.

Looking closely at this unit:

definitely go with one that requires oil.  the compressor will be quieter and have better output than an oil-less compressor. yea the oil changes have to be done but honestly you will probably do 1 in the whole life of the compressor.

that HF one will do you just fine, I like verticals since they take up less floor space.

I have the same unit but older.  Going on 20 years now.  Use it every weekend.  I'm always nervous about relying on any Harbor Freight equipment for long term use.

I got the one that you're looking at, and it works great.  It holds enough air to fill your bike tires and little jobs without starting up the compressor.  And the motor is big enough to run an impact driver without having to wait for the tank to refill. 
Two tips: get the red $80. impact gun, the $30. one is a POS.  Get good quick disconnects, the cheaper ones they sell don't mate up tight to each other and leak so I have to disconnect all the time.  I will upgrade next visit the HF.

I've got that one as well and its good to go as long as you check the little window to check oil levels on occasion you should be fine.

Although I like the larger SCFM of Toro's compressor. Makes the air sander I'm looking at run seamlessly.

Danny's compressor is in a whole nother league. 

Twin piston is very nice.  Quiet and high output, the price is not bad either. 

Can't beat the HF  compressor if your on a budget tho.

Yeah, that twin piston Husky is gonna run smoother, quieter and probably last longer,but, you could buy 3 HFs for the $$$.  Tough call... unless you know someone at Home Depot
