Rattlesnake Cyn May 13-14
« on: April 25, 2017, 04:58:26 PM »
Looking for drivers for easy-moderate Rattlesnake Canyon trail May 13-14 with only restrictions being that you are wheeling in a 4x4 w decent ground clearance. Its May 13-14 and its the alternate group heading to Big Bear.  That evening we will all meet up at a yellow camping post with Celts group, have a fire and camp out. He is leading the John Bull run, but with having restrictions on rigs most cannot do that trail. With less restrictions i'm hoping to get a decent amount of trucks. Sunday is Mothers Day, but I'm sure if need be u can make the great escape early morning! So far looks like we have 2 rigs. Sign up fast before its too late!

Rattlesnake Canyon Rd to Big Bear trip; May 13-14, so camping saturday night. More than likely we will all dissipate at our own leisure sunday morning since its Mothers Day. Bring a map so u can find ur way around in Big Bear! You may also find someone who will be sticking around for some more wheeling sunday so if thats ur choice then u can ask around to see what everyones doing.

I love Rattlesnake Canyon, but I'll have to pass. Spending the weekend off-roading is definitely more of a Father's Day thing than it is a Mother's Day thing in my household. Have fun out there guys!

Thank you for posting, I'm in. BTW, Rattlesnake and 2N02 can be done in 2WD with careful spotting and little momentum here and there. We've been through there with a guy in a 2Runner (2WD 4Runner ;) ) in April last year, but all the rain this last season may have changed that.

I'm contemplating as I'd be returning from a small vacation and playing with my X and modifying what I can. I'd like to join what's the details.
If so, where's you starting at? Meeting up or driving up together? Time wise? Overnight or just fun day trip?

Starting the trail from the backside of Big Bear near Landers down in the desert at Old Woman Springs Rd. and gradually work our way up to the different elevations eventually reaching Big Bear where we will meet the second half of the group at a yellow post campsite. To Be Determined! We will be driving 5-6 hrs depending on how long up Rattlesnake Cyn trail then to Burns Cyn trail aka 2N02 up into Big Bear. My trail guide shows 2 hours for each trail plus a few more easy dirt roads to find our campsite. We will meet at closest gas station here to fill up.

Lucerne Valley, CA 92356

Meeting time:

Trail begins here:
Rattlesnake Canyon Rd
Landers, CA 92285

If you guys don't have a HAM I would suggest coming up with a 1st, 2nd and maybe 3rd choice for YP or it may be difficult to find each other without driving all over creation. I plan on getting on Gold Mtn by 0900 and with any luck be off the JB by 1500, earlier if possible. The biggest issue can be the gate keeper as vehicles tend to really stack up there but being Mother's Day weekend it's either going to be free and clear or swamped. Some of the good locations are YP #2,3,4,6,7,33 and #34 as they are in the NW part of Fawnskin and the area where we should come off the trails from.

After picking up my the newly acquired front bumper, I will be adding my roof rack and adding my cb so put me down as a possible. Need to make sure the girl wants to join unless she's going home.
Question is it needed to air down? I'm asking cause I got no way to fill back up. Slowly building the rig.

You can air up at any gas station in Big Bear.

So I'm guessing we wouldn't be airing down that bad then. Sounds good. So is it do the trail and call it a day or a over nighter

Be warned, last July I went on my first sccx trip on 2n02. I'm a noob and didn't have an air compressor or deflators so I didn't air down when everyone else did. Guess what.. I was the one guy who flatted. 40psi doesn't allow the tire the flex it needs to conform to those sharp rocks so instead the rock penetrates them. Everyone was super cool and had my rig up in the air swapping out the flat for my spare before I was even out of the truck, but man that was a learning experience for sure.  Air down to 20 psi or so and air back up ASAP and you should be good to go.  Good luck and have fun!

Sounds good
Just hoping it's close enough to make it to a gas station or someone willing to lend a hand to air back up no compressor in the car and I haven't invested in one since I want to add a built in one to the rig.

Yes I was getting to that. Glad u asked. So far it looks like we will hit YP31 first then we can follow this order. 31, 33, 5, 2 and 4. Now I wanted to ask u if having more than 2 trucks and 8 peeps will be an issue deeming that being the restriction at yellow post sites?
And for those wondering how I got that. This is the planned route: RC3331, 2N02, 3N16 & 2N09 to the first yellow campsite.

This is a good link to the yellow campsites: https://www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1Vhixi7VMpOUq2JHhzgPA9Hb8sOY&hl=en_US&ll=34.29093425567653%2C-116.90955708076478&z=15

This is my gps trail guide I will be using. If u download the GPX viewer app it should work: https://www.trailsoffroad.com/
Just make sure u download all the trails up around where we will be including the ones near the alternate yellow campsites cause I dont think we will have reception, but if u have the maps already it will work.

The additional vehicles may present an issue. Might need to fend for our selves on the camping.
