Big Bear Tuesday 10-24-17 (Heartbreak Ridge)
« on: October 17, 2017, 12:05:27 PM »
Run Announcement
Location:         Between Big Bear Lake and Yucca Valley (2N61Y and 2N70Y)
Date:               Tuesday, 10-24-17
Leader:           James (0317)
Difficulty:        Moderate to lightly Difficult (black diamond per: forest service)
Meet:              Highway 38 and 2N01
Meet Time:     10:30 am
Depart:            10:45 am
Comm:            None
Run Typ:          Day Run
Lunch               On the Trail

Description: Trail includes narrow canyons, steep shelf roads, large boulders and sharp rocks. The trail is rocky in places but can be traversed by stock 4X4s with open differentials and a skilled driver. Remote location.

Features: Travel on easy forest roads to remote canyons in search of rock crawling challenges. Not a scenic trail. Many old mines in the area. Some roads allow green-sticker vehicles, others do not.

A total of 16.4 miles. 3 to 4 hours.

I have done this trail 4 times solo and lockers were never needed but would always help. Rock sliders and under armor recommended.

Sounds like a fun day. I've really been wanting to get out on the trails with you and Tom soon. Unfortunately, this Tuesday is too short of a notice for me to get the day off work. I'll keep my fingers crossed that I can make the next one. Have fun!

I modified the trail difficulty from: Moderate to light Difficulty to Moderate to lightly Difficult. Sorry if this confused anyone, i meant to say it was lightly difficult. This trail is rated Black Diamond by the forest service, its more difficult then Gold Mountain but less difficult then Holcomb Creek, Dishpan Springs, or John Bull.

Sorry for the late decision. I was trying to make it work but looks like I can't make it this time. You have an hour and a half driving head start. The 3 extra hours for this outing was too much for what else I have to do this week. Was trying to see if I could camp up there but I need to be back early morning. Next time. Have fun.
