QUICK RELEASE TENT MOUNT KIT - BY FRONT RUNNER
« on: December 07, 2017, 10:32:09 PM »
Hey fellow RTT-ers:

Anyone purchased these yet?  If so, love or hate them?  Thrilled you bought them or waste o'money? On your wish list?

Seriously considering buying these, as mounting/unmounting the RTT is the biggest pain of ownership (IMO).

So I'm looking for feedback from anyone who has already added these to their rig.  ;)

Imo for that much money I will continue just unbolting it, or leave it on all the time cause i can't lift it all on my own.

Not sure how difficult yours is to remove compared to mine tho.

With the uber-lowered rack.....yeah, it's a true pain  :o

But the price is killing me!  So trying to decide which is more painful.   ::)

Has anyone in the RTT community used these yet?

I haven't used this product specifically Barb...but, my Yakima Skyrise came equipped with a pretty cool set of "clamp" style attachment pieces that make removal pretty simple.

I cracked one and had to purchase a new one direct from Yakima, for $15.00.  Much less than the FrontRunner pieces @ $75 each.

The yakima mounts wouldn't work with the other tents unless you changed the rails to match the yakima tent.  I don't know if the yakima mounts would work for Mike n Barb's front runner rack either.

Watched the FR video and those are pretty cool quick release but man, $300

My tent is not hard to remove from the rack as it is getting it off the truck, my truck is too tall and I am too short.  The lack of manpower aka another strong person also doesn't help either.

Yeah, being short didn't help the installation of these one bit..... (spoiler alert: these were a b!tch to install!!)

Really hoping these were worth the price.   First camping trip will be the test.

That's a bummer. They also look like they add at least 2" of height to the RTT setup, which is also a bummer. I still REALLY want to swap out to the flat-top style rack for clearance purposes. Running a frontrunner with the "toro mod" like you guys have would allow me to titan swap and still fit in the garage. I was hopeful these quick releases would be part of that ultimate plan/solution, but it looks like they'll add too much height :(

Wait.....did you go RTT?  I thought you were a ground guy......

Edit:  also not sure about the 2in thing - I can measure.  And I believe there was a way to mount below rack, giving an even lower profile.  We are trying this version first to see how it goes....

I've long been dreaming about getting one, but am still a ground guy for now.

That was my first thought when I saw them mounted to your rack (roof rack), but I didn't want to sound like a dummy so I shut up for once.
