New members here how do We start?
« on: November 17, 2009, 08:18:36 PM »
Hey we would like join your group it seems like a good time. My Wife and I recently purchased a Xterra it is 2005 Offroad Solar Yellow in color with about 47,000. We would like go on run we can't make the upcoming on Nov 21, but are looking forward to perhaps a December run. The Xterra is stock now but, planning a 2in PRG billet spacer lift with 2in add pack inthe rear. I thought that would be a good platform for a build. But I'm open to suggestions or opinions. I come from a toyota rock crawling background, so I have experience in offroad driving, just new to Nissan. We wanted a suv offroader so we can fit maybe a family someday, and my wife always loved the Xterra. We are very interested in joining the group is there a December run planned?

Hey Niles.

I'd recommend hanging out here and hooking up on one of the runs. It's half driving and half talking so find a truck and talk to it's owner and see what they like and don't like about the truck. I went with a suspension lift and found it's enough for the trails we run. We do plenty of trails and don't fear the black diamond trails as long as we're with the club and some strong backs. The second generation Xterras are pretty capable on the trails.

There's a general forum you might want to look at: www.TheNewX.Org

We run pretty often, it use to be monthly but less so lately. December is a tough month to fit a run into but we try.

Welcome.  We'll try to get something going for December, even if it's only another easy Anza Borrego run.  Some of us are also talking about an X-Mas Party again, just trying to figure out a good central location.

Like Paul said, keep checking back, and feel free to join in the discussions (such as they are).

First mod I would recommend is a color change. J/K. Welcome to the club. Look forward to meeting you two.

The yellow owners have a special bond ...  ::) that no other color owners have.

Another new member here.  Been lurking for a long time.  Thought I'd finally join.  I just had some Goodyear Wrangler MT/R with Kevlar (265/75/16) tires installed the other day.  They are great on-road so far.  Can't wait to get them dirty.  I also ordered some sliders last week.  Hopefully they don't take too long to ship (I've heard horror stories).  I'm looking to join you guys on the next Xcursion.

Any others in the Pasadena area?

Welcome Stargazer. I have been reading the reviews on your tires and so far they are all good. I don't live in Pasadena but I spend a lot of time working in that area.

Thanks Goldfish.

What do you do for work out here?

I've heard a lot of good things about the tires as well.  Hopefully it's not all hype.

BTW, I ended up with load range E tires.  I hear that they don't air down as well.  Is this true?

I work as a pipefitter for a mechanical contractor. We do a lot of work at JPL and Cal Tech. I've also worked on many of the buildings on Colorado Blvd. I have never heard about the E rated tires not airing down well. It makes since with the stiffer sidewall, in fact that's what makes them attractive. My Rugged Trails have some pretty deep gouges in the sidewall.
