This time around we find ourselves starting in the desert and heading up to the (hopefully) snowy mountains. I ran this route last March and had a blast. I’m going to say that 4x4 is most likely needed as there are a couple sections that could be tricky in a 2wd, especially under snowy, muddy, sloppy conditions. (I know there are some that say they can do it in 2wd, and if you can, more power to ya…just know that the Admins/Moderators will not be held liable….nor would we leave anyone stranded)Once we reach the snow-line, we can scout out a spot for some snow-play and snacks…maybe play for an hour? Really depends on the weather and conditions. After that we will continue on into Big Bear proper where we will cruise through the Holcomb Valley (3n16) and end up at the old mining ruins (great spot for a group picture). From there we can head into town and eat lunch, shop, or feel free to head out if you need to get home. When: Sunday January 13thWhere: 3n14 (starting in Apple Valley) to 3n16 (ending in Big Bear)26.75 miles of dirt!Meet up location: 8960 Bowen Ranch Rd. Apple Valley, CA 9230834.41412, -117.13232Start Time: 9:15 a.m., ROLLING OUT BY 9:30a.m. (if you are running late, please try to reach us via CB/Walkie-Talkie so we know you are coming).Finish Time: Hard to say, I’d say we would be done (at the end of 3n16) by 11:30am-12pm or so….but don’t quote me.What to bring:Warm clothing, food, water, first-aid kit, shovel, recovery gear (straps, d’rings, etc. Stuff to play in the snow if you wish. I always carry chains when traveling in the mountains (but I doubt we would be hassled). Be sure to top off your tanks in Apple Valley. Last but not least, a good attitude.Difficulty: 2/10. Nothing crazy, just a couple short mildy rocky climb sections that shouldn't be a problem.Coms: I have a basic CB and handheld FRS walkie-talkies. If you have some, please bring them…it just makes life easier. Channels will be determined the night before the run.All events are family friendly, we pride ourselves on this. There will be young children on this run, so please conduct yourselves as responsible adults. Please drive safely to the trail and especially when out on the trail. We are looking forward to seeing new and familiar faces on this run!
Are you going Rik ??
Doing runs on a Sunday only just does not make sense to me. Have fun though. I'd like to do that trip again someday. I went the other way once from Hanna Flats to Apple Valley. It would be cool to do with some snow on the ground.
I am going as well.... Sunday or not!!!!! LOL
Awesome!!!!!! You solo or family in with you? Oh yeah are you running CB or HAM?
Guy be careful. With the expected rain this weekend there is a fair chance that rattlesnake canyon will flood and that is not someplace you want to be when the water starts rising.
RIKRONG, So you have run this before? Thats a great thing to have in our hip pocket!!!!!!!! Was thinking about turning around at BB and going back to apple valley, Instead of rolling thru BB proper.
