Question on "4WD points"
« on: November 09, 2019, 11:04:17 AM »
Okay, I've been here since 2008, attended lots of Xcursions back them, lot's of "How-To" threads, lot's of topics started, lots of replies to newbie questions and a regular here.

How is it I only have 10 4wd points?  What are they and how do you get more?  Is there a thread for that here?

4WD points are the equivalent of Facebook likes/dislikes that any forum contributor with a created profile can click to show appreciation or dislike of a thread post.

I changed it to 4WD points rather than the old Approve/Smite system because 4WD was more relevant to a 4x4 forum...and Smiting just seemed MEAN, especially for an online forum.

Not sure why you have more or less Irwin...it just is.  I've been posting here since 2009 and have 98.

I'd venture a guess it comes from a blend of Selfless But Completely Relevant Fourm Contributions/Xcrusion Leading/Mod Day Hosting/Sticker Handing Outing/Server Hosting Fee Donating/Not Posting to Just Post and Increase Your Post Count to Look Like a Forum Veteran/and General Dudeness ratings...and if you run 35" Tires On A Suspension Lift that also Auto Qualifies You For 50 4WD Points.

However...Showing Up At A Trailhead Unprepared/Ripping Donuts Around Another Group Dusting Them Out and Almost Getting The Trail Leaders Ass Kicked/Rushing Through An Obstacle On Gold Mountain and Almost Running Over The Trail Leaders Son/Hosting An Xcursion At An Auto Dealership But Not Showing Up/Burying Your IPhone Before A Three Day Xcurion and Delaying The Start of Said Xcursion For Almost 45 Minutes/Using The Last of The Trail Leaders CoffeeMate/Killing Your Chinese Knock Off Trailer At Teakettle Junction and Abandoning The Xcursion as The Trail Leader/Getting So Drunk At The Trail Leaders Wedding That You Tell His Future Mother In Law in Front Of His Future Wife "You're HOT" 7 Times are all items that might qualify you for reverse 4WD points.

I'm actually shocked this wasn't covered when you received your SCCX Membership Packet and Club Not A Club Sticker??

 ;) ;)

I've been here since late 2005, and other than maybe driving too slowly for some people when leading some runs years ago, I don't think I've annoyed anyone all that much - but I only have 76 points.

Actually, I never noticed the points before, had to look to see what I had.

I suppose I have no input to better anyones point lot in life (-602)  :'( Hey at least I'm not trying to bribe anyone for 4wd points with something blasphemous like Bud Light.

I joined when Xtoolbox & Onewaysoldier were still here.  I don't have a Facebook account, had one, got deleted.  I am glad that "Approve/smite" thing was changed.  So, assuming others have deleted their Facebook account, how will this new rating system work?  Should we start brainstorming ideas to make a "specific list" of how to earn more "4wd points"?

I'll start:
-1 point for every year since you joined SCCX.
-1 point for every thread started.
-10 points for every "How-To" write up posted.
-1 point per club sticker or velcro patch
-2 points for buying an SCCX t-shirt or hoodie.
-5 points for attending a Mod Day.
-5 points for attending a Meet & Greet.
-10 points for attending a trail run or Xcursion.

What else can we add?

I would say that we leave it alone like it is. This place isn't about "points" If we start doing that then we will have those super duper awesome guys that turn into the forum elitists. You can post all sorts of stuff up on the forum just to get points but still be a complete A$$ (Not calling you that) for "points". Just look at the foolishness over on Thenewx when their super secret room was revealed for all to see. Those few true colors really came to light as to who they were and are as people. They are not people most of us here want to associate with. That's not how we operate as we are really good at self governing. We are a small group of guys that like to sometimes (Well a lot) talk smack about each other here but it's out in the open. Believe me I get every bit much as much as I give and I don't mind. We like to go camping and wheeling together. Often times guys will just get together for a lunch or come over to another's house to fix something. We generally have very few things we ask of anyone other than show up with a good attitude on the runs. It's worked as long as I've been around. I have made some really solid friendships along the way over time. If you are really that worried about the points on your signature I could offer some help if you want it.

1: Participate in runs and activities with everyone.
2: Come up with ideas for runs that people enjoy and lead them (Often).
3: Stay an active member getting to know all of the ..new.. guys....
4: If something ain't broke don't try to fix it, nobody likes The Good Idea Fairy.
