Monache Meadows Jeep Trail
« on: December 20, 2009, 03:47:39 PM »
This was my first run - right out of the dealership.  Took it on a pretty easy trail up in Sequoia.   Stock SE-SC.

I took it on more difficult trails than are seen but I didn't get any footage because I was more concerned with making out out of there undamaged.

Yeah it was great camping, we went during the week so we came across nobody except a jeep club---they seemed surprised to see us out there.  There are some amazing places to hike to.  My wife was also full term on her pregnancy. we took a lot of pics/videos but i just threw a few things up, perhaps later I'll put something better together.    I definitely put it to the test (not on the video)---On a difficult trail the engine slightly shifted and the fan was rubbing against the fan shroud, i had to trim it on the spot because the fan was stuck and the engine started overheating---Once I got turned around the engine shifted back into place, i don't think i broke an engine mount.  Also... it's always nice when you get back on the highway and there are no vibrations after a pretty rough trip.

Nice video...I love it that you took your X wheeling right from the stealership!  Still has the dayglo dealer plate on the front!  ;D

Where is that music from?

Heck yeah, took it out right away, can't wait to get out again.  I don't remember the name of the composition I chose for the video, sounds pretty dramatic, huh?  Took me quite a long time to find it because I didn't know the name but I knew what I was looking for.  I have it on my computer at home, I can let you know when I have a chance to look.

Nice video. I love Monache Meadows. I try and go there at least once a year. That first shot of the river crossing looks like the campground all the way to the north end where there are camping spots on both sides of the south fork. Lots of bears up there too.
But he said it was stock friendly!!

I just bought my Xterra too, and a day later took it up to the snow in Big Bear.  I am waiting for the next Xcursion announcement for January, and will definitely plan for that inaugural off road trip.

Very compelling music...seems like it is out of the movie Gladiator.

http://www.controlmind.org/images/SoundTrackKaduViana.mp3  <----- I uploaded it to one of my servers.   That's not the actual name of the track though, I can't remember the name of the composer for the life of me.     Sadly I don't even have my license plate yet and I've had the thing for maybe 6 months now.  Dealer said, "oh I sent it months ago"  ... I'm going to order one of the Yosemite plates after Christmas.

FYI the fan was rubbing because your engine mount is either loose or broken.  Might want to look into it.  my bet is on the driver side

It is a very haunting melody.  Looked up Kadu Viana on ITunes and got nothing.  No worries.  The Yosemite vanity plates are really cool, I am going to get the 9/11 commemorative plates when I can.

I'm dreading the mount being loose or broken, when i give the engine a good rev nothing appears loose.

Monache Mountian (X-10 Hunting Grounds) love that place I'm there every year during deer season. Some of the trails are a bit bad but nothing an xterra cant handle...Hell I'm on my third Xterra (2002, 2006 off rad and now just got my 2010 off road X) and they never let me down. :)

Yeah, I love that area, how hard is it to get a hunting permit up there?   My favorite places are a bit further north in the wilderness between Bridgeport and Lake Tahoe on the back side of Yosemite.

Great time to be up there.  Starts to get too chilly for all the city-folk.   I haven't been hunting since I was young but we hunted elk up in Northern Nevada.  I've been looking at Remington 700's (of course), is that overkill for the deer up there?

I was also considering a flint-lock as it was something my pop's was into before he died and it's pretty sentimental every time I shoot one.   Plus they are just lots of fun.  Something in the lines of a 62 caliber Kentucky Long Rifle (French & Indian war era).
