 Anyone have any intel on this? I don't think it's a huge deal but it looks like the water crossing is no more:

Considering that the RR maintenance guy hydrauliced the engine on his truck two years ago, it isn't surprising that they would do this if they were going to be moving a bunch of equipment in to repair the trestle.  Just hope they clean up after themselves.  Interesting that BLM had no idea that it had been done.  I can't even cut down a dangerous eucalyptus on one of our closed landfills without an environmental review!

 I agree as when I saw that video it had Railroad all over it. That's a whole lot of time and money for anyone else to do. I'm thinking the Railroad has some form of ability to ensure there is access when it comes to the safety of the rail lines.

Depends on when it is, I won't go out there when the temps are up. I'm gearing up for a big trip this summer so depending on how this is put together I'd be interested.

When I've gone with my family, we don't need a permit.  We just go.  How critical is having this permit?

Now, it's barely bumper high, you should go for it.

You can also bypass the river crossing pretty easily, if it weren't filled in with gravel. You'd just take Basin road instead of Afton Road, which is one exit north of Afton Road on I-15. You'd miss the drive through the canyon, unfortunately, which is arguably one of the best parts of the entire trip. In reality, you could drive through the canyon all the way to the water crossing, then turn around and head back to Basin Road and take that back out. Many people who go back into the canyon take Basin Road instead of Afton Road, to avoid the water crossing.
