I had to do an emergency winch job on something the winch or vehicle was not rated for. As a result it tore part of the frame mounts to the bumper and left the bumper canted downwards at a slight angle. I was plying my woes to Jayrat and he suggested his cousin might be able to help at his shop. Within a few hours it was straightened back out and reinforced with some top notch welds. Amazing job.....

 Something I thought useful to know for many of us that have aftermarket bumpers. The bumper mounts that are attached directly to the frame are only welded on the sides (Inner and outer) from the factory. There is no weld on the top or bottom which as I discovered is a weak spot. Jayrat's cousin saw this when I was getting the repair completed and strengthened it. Something to consider yourselves especially those of us who use the winches or hook snatch straps up to pull folks out of an issue. Lot's of force gets exerted on those two small points. Besides helping me out those guys at his shop do some amazing work/fabrication so if you need anything done Jayrat would be the man with the plan to get you in touch with these guys. Can't say enough good about them.

When I had a winch before, I ripped my whole bumper out. It was like a wish bone. One truck anchor got the bigger piece the stuck vehicle got the smaller.  If you plan on winching sleeve the frame and double shear the mounting location.

Properly designed bumpers will also attach to the lower recovery points on the bottom of the frame as well as the front mounting points, the front points are only designed to crumple in an impact so they are not very strong.

Wow, good info.  I just finished building my rear offroad bumper.  Getting ready to start on the front.  Glad I read this so I know what to beef up.  Can you guys post up pictures of your winch mounts?  I need to get an idea of how much of an opening I need to install the winch later.

With all the time we spent under the back end today I forgot to get under the front for some pics. That stupid Zerk fitting is still makin me grumpy. I think I'll yank it tomorrow and put in a new one.

Just gotta finish welding all these gussets and I can move on to the swing arms.
