Looks like a pretty good chance of more snow along the trail this week and rain later ... the long range forecast is guessing next weekend's weather along the trail.

I would love to see everyone, if weather is not too bad and do I need chains? I would be coming from Brian's neck of the woods in Torrance - I have new MT Destinations 33s , great in snow -suck on ice like all muds do. Also I am listing as tentative because Friday Feb 5th I go under knife (skin cancer two places around eyes) nothing big but I do poorly on anesthetics.

Paul, I agree, trip is a go weather permitting.  Right now, a 40% chance of rain/snow for Big Bear for Saturday.

SCSilverX, I will give you a call today to coordinate.  Personally, I would like to go, come H*** or highwater, and just turnaround if the going is unpassable.  I spoke with a friend who owns a cabin in Big Bear, and they were up yesterday and said the snow pack there is unprecedented.  8 feet tall in some places, and that they were actually trucking the snow down the mountain in dump trucks.

The storm that's coming doesn't look too big at this distance and is likely to hit hardest Wednesday so things ought to be good by Saturday.

I would love to see everyone, if weather is not too bad and do I need chains? I would be coming from Brian's neck of the woods in Torrance - I have new MT Destinations 33s , great in snow -suck on ice like all muds do. Also I am listing as tentative because Friday .

Chains!

Road Closures
http://www.dot.ca.gov/janstormclosures.php

Chain Requirements (247 has to be open) If Big Bear/Arrowhead area is snowed in you can check running north up the 15 to Bear Valley Road, to the 18, to the 247 working your way in from the west. I'm coming up from the south taking the 10 thru Cabazon, north on the 62, then north along the 247 to the east of the trail.

http://www.dot.ca.gov/cgi-bin/roads.cgi

The trail starts at N34 22.1407 W116 38.9869 +/- 50 feet.

John....go  ;D you don't have to go up to Big Bear to exit .  In fact I would recommend against it due to snow day trippers  that make the trip down very long.

Just head out toward burns cyn like we did last year or take the other road out (forgot the name of it)
