Update: New Daily Driver
« on: February 27, 2010, 04:46:09 PM »
I have the opportunity to sell my Xterra for a certain amount of money. With this money I would buy a SASed frontier for 6500, fully locked and ready to rock. obviously i would make money on this deal or else i wouldn't do it. with the spare money i'd buy a little car as a DD or possibly a motorcycle. i still have to talk to the parents about it and let them know why its a good deal. for example: the SAS would cost me about 4 grand to do on my Xterra the way i want to, i wouldnt have to worry as much on the trail as far as breaking down because my X is currently my DD, and so forth. so what do you guys think?

Update: New Daily Driver

There she is. 1985 Pontiac Fiero GT V6 4-speed manual. It has 102k original miles and runs great. She needs some new break pads and a fluid change, but she is in great shape. The interior doesn't look like it's 25 years old and the paint job is in fantastic shape considering it's been in So Cal it's whole life. It has a brand new head unit that plays DVD's and MP4's in it. The coolest part of the car is the speakers inside the headrest...for some reason I thought that was neat. Now time to pick up a dedicated trail rig!

I would go for it, but would opt for the small car option, skip the motorcycle.  Especially if you come out ahead on the sale of the Xterra.

Did you get a chance to look at it yet?  I would test drive it, cycle the SAS, etc before even  making a move.  Since you didn't do the work, it's a good idea to test everything out before purchasing.

What a QUITTER!  If you're going to sell your X, why even bother posting at all.  It's clear you don't love it which means you don't deserve it.  You should build up your own ride, not buy one that someone else built up.  At this point, I feel you need to sell it.  Sorry if it seems harsh, just my POV.

That IS a bit harsh...just my POV.  >:(

I have met Craig, and I can respect his desire to get a more aggressive off road rig, especially if it suits his dual needs of having a reliable DD and great off road rig.

haha ouch? it isnt about quitting really. it would cost me 4 grand to SAS it the way i want to, and then i'd have to buy a DD on top of that. it's more about economics for me. if i can break even on this deal and get a better offroad vehicle...why not? i would still be building onto the SAS a bit so i'd still have some work to do. i have put a ton of work into my xterra (and will probably continue to as my friend is buying it). this deal is about 100% done. I am going to look at 2 cars for my DD today and tomorrow. i'm sorry that you feel i am quitting on the xterra, but i really dont feel i am. i wanted some feedback. and thanks for the support john! the lift looks great!

An SAS'ed Frontier is a nice truck.  I didn't think there were all that many around here.  Did you find it locally?

Many people don't SAS their own trucks.  It's a huge job.  It sounds like a decent deal, but beware that from what I've seen there will be a lot of problems and you should really know how to wrench on the truck, especially on the trails when things go wrong.  It seems like one of those things that the more work you do to your truck the more work you'll need to do to your truck.

i just bought a 1985 Pontiac Fiero GT V6 4-speed manual tonight as my DD for $1400. the thing is in tip top shape inside and out. Just a few minor things that need to be changed, like the brake pads! now time to work on the deal for the sale of the X and SAS'd Frontier.
