Has anyone ever gone on Carveacre Road Trail and Pancake Rock in Cleveland National Forrest?  The trail head is located on Japatul Valley Road off I-8.

I love that trail! One of the hidden gems in San Diego county. It's actually a rather difficult trail due to deep ruts and slippery surfaces. Even though it's not that long, it's challenging to get up to the Pancake Rock and you are rewarded with an awesome view. Only a 40min drive from downtown San Diego.
Let's plan a trip soon for this.

Would anyone be interested in a northern Mojave trail/camping run? Say, Cal City to the Randsburg, or a trip through Red Rock Canyon?

Guns and alcohol(used separately) would be welcome!

I have no idea lol. Last time I was off-road in mojave I was on dirt-bikes like 5+ years ago. Any kind of trip we can plan in this area would be awesome though.

I am currently planning a trip from Death Valley to Vegas. From 4/19 to 4 /21. One night camping. One night hotel and back the next night. So far we have 8 confirm. We will likely have two groups. A go fast and a slow group.

If you are interested let me know and I will keep you in the loop once we have the course mapped.

Cheers,
Spencer

Spencer...this is the same weekend we have the SCCX Mojave Rd. Xcursion going on.

Maybe we all could meet up, schedules/time permitting?

Cerro Gordo! (Swansea Cerro Gordo Trail)
This is a moderate to aggressive 33 mile off-road trail that starts just past the town of Keeler, on the East side of Owens Lake (roughly opposite Lone Pine and Mt. Whitney) and winds its way up through some narrow canyons, forest, and along a mountain ridge.  There is an old salt line trestle along the ridge that is a great place to stop for lunch.  The trail then winds further North along the White Mountains to the old silver mining ghost town of Cerro Gordo.  There, you will find a caretaker who can show you around and even offer a room for the night in one of 2 historic inns.  From Cerro, it's a simple gravel road back down the mountain to state road 190, and then to I-395.  Could be done as a longer day run or an overnight, staying in Cerro, or in one of the towns such as Lone Pine or Ridgecrest.

I did this about 6 weeks ago and we had an absolute BLAST doing it.  With the recent snow, it's probably worth waiting a few weeks, since the upper parts of the trail can be impassable at times.  A stock X could probably make it, but a lift and skids will help with the first portion (steep rocky climbs).  Recovery gear (front & rear points) and solid tires, are definitely recommended.  Lockers are nice to have, but I did this trail in a nearly stock Jeep Liberty (1.5" lift & A/T shoes) and had an absolute blast.  Another guy in our group had a Lexus on nearly bald tires and he made it without needing to get pulled out.  I'm really keen to take the X once it's lifted (parts on order...)

Any interest around April or May timeframe?  I can check trail conditions ahead of time since I am close by.  Should be improving as we trend toward spring.

I would be interested in that time frame.  Depending which month i may be up to sliders!  I have stock skids already and pretty much everything else needed by then.

Awesome.  Obviously I don't want to schedule it over the top of a club run, but I will take a look at the calendar over the next week or so and try to hammer something out.

***THIS IS A FEELER, I WILL POST A THREAD ABOUT THIS IF AN ACTUAL RUN IS IN THE WORKS***

OK, so it took me longer than a week, but what about a Swansea-Cerro Gordo run the weekend of 11 May?

Again, this is a feeler, so PM me or reply to the thread with interest.  I haven't seen any trail runs in the works for May yet, so maybe this could be a good time to meet n' greet and get a trail run in May?

May is going to be tough because of Gone Moab. Alot of the "get out there and wheel" people will be going to this.

Try it...not all of us are headed to goneMOAB.  I think there are six from SCCX...that leaves a lot more members to play in May.

We now have the Homepage up and running.  ;D  You can see what's on the calendar for SCCX in the Current Events section of the Homepage.  The Homepage can be found by clicking on the link at the top of the page.  Here is a direct link to the Current Events.  SCCX Current Events

If you would like me to add the Swansea-Cerro Gordo run to the calendar, please let me know once you decide the date.  We can schedule it as "tentative" if you would like so that the members will know that the date may change.
