I rolled it in Wildomar...
« on: March 28, 2010, 12:38:46 AM »
It was more of a super slow flop over as opposed to rollover.  No one was injured.  My passenger sorta freaked out for a few seconds.  Surprisingly I didn't even get a shot adrenaline when it happen.  Just calmly climbed out of the X, grabbed the winch gear, asked a friend to take some photos, worked with one of my younger brothers, his co driver, & another driver to winch it back over.  Ended up using a couple of large boulders, tow strap & a couple mounting points on the X to get it right side up again.  After spending about 30 minutes on its side the X fired right up and ran great the rest of the day.  Didn't have a problem getting back in the saddle again.  My passenger hopped right back in and we carried on our merry way.
Funds are more than tight so I won't be replacing the doors or fender any time soon.  But, I'm confident I can knock out most of the dents and get the windows working properly again.  The rear quarter class busted because I didn't strap down my the town hitch I had pulled off right before we got to Wildomar.  Figured it wasn't going to be an exciting day so I didn't bother strapping it down.  I will be replacing or repairing the mirror, door latch, & quarter glass as soon as I can.

Yes, there was a lot of things I could have done differently to prevent the roll over.  In short, I should have aired down before going out to play; wouldn't have slipped off my line.  I should have removed my spare spare from my roof before before leaving (I moved this weekend and was transporting it from the storage unit); wouldn't have been as top heavy and may have not even rolled.  I should have picked a different line going up the hill; sorta picked the more difficult line.  I should have jammed it into reverse and gassed it backwards when I started to go; could have driven out of it.  And the list goes on...  But, it's all part of the lifestyle of being a off-roader...  I've been told it's not a matter of "if you roll..." but "when you roll..." and I proved that true.   I'll take care of the X, fix it up, and hit the trail again as soon as I can :-)

Well, here's the pics.

I've got a complete D44 (rear) in my garage.  It's from a 91' wagoneer. 61.5" wms 2 wms.  Good axles & gears.  Seals will need to be replaced though.  I'll give it to him for $100.

Dang!

Glad to hear you're OK and the X is merely a bit injured. Cosmetics at best it looks.

Glad to hear no one was hurt.

I'm surprised no one has said "it'll buff out" yet, but I guess that's kind of what Paul said.

Good job keeping things in perstective.  I'm glad everyone is ok and you still had fun despite the bump in the road. ;)
I'd rather be happy than right any day.

Yeah bummer  :'( happens sometimes in spots like those: Uphill rutted gullies can be tippy, spotting w/ slow carefull tire placement can sometimes help (Ie.. better to back down and adjust the line, once you fell front tires lift stop if you could?)

Sheet metal is so superfluous and can be replaced, safety is always #1 in these situations so glad everybody is ok, good use of the winch.

Been on that hill and those others: wildomar has some really narrow, nasty rutted sections that are more like moto trails than truck ones.

Bulid it back better than ever w/ external tube & metal work: maybe rack replacment with tube beyond the body up top, body Armor (like flat sheet on top of stock for door, rear quarters sections like the jeeps below) , Interior cage, fenders? and even think about replacing rear glass with tinted polycarb like guys back east have done.
