Campgrounds Big Bear/ Joshua tree
« on: October 19, 2010, 07:48:32 PM »
Ok. So my girl, her sister,my buddy, and I are going camping this weekend. I am thinking Big Bear area, It would be low 40s-high 30's which really isnt that bad with 0 degree bags, or possibly Joshua tree...

So my question is what camp grounds do you all recomend? I know one in Joshua tree, well outside of it and it is with out "bathrooms". I am not up to date on many campgrounds what would you recomend?

basicly those campsites need at least a restroom lol...

We are going to be leaving from UCRiverside so any where really around their is good, it could have some mild off roading areas and such would be cool too. thanks!

There are a bunch of yellow post sites in Big Bear.  Best thing to do is just go to the Big Bear Discovery Center and ask the rangers there.  The discovery center is right at the entrance to many of the trails and camping spots in the area.  They should be able to give you a map and point out where to go.  You'll also need to buy an Adventure Pass from them if you don't already have one.

In Joshua Tree I think that Jumbo Rocks and White Tank both have vault toilets.  Not sure about the other spots.

You might also consider Anza Borrego.  There are vault toilets at Arroyo Salado and Fish Creek, and running water (but probably a fee) at Palm Canyon and Tamarisk Grove.  There are showers at the OWSRV Area, I don't know if they charge to use them or any details. If you camped at one of the "primitive" sites you could always stop in there for a shower.

thanks Frank, I was thinking that would be cool down there I have never been... It may be south for their tastes but maybe that could work out (lots of wheeling places)

And BB looks cool checking that out now thanks!!
