Ideas for an Excursion in April
« on: February 23, 2011, 12:30:51 PM »
Hey guys! I'm new here and have yet to go on a trip with everyone! Just got my X in November and absolutely loving it so far! It will remain stock for a little bit until I gather funds to get everything that I want.

I would like to go on an Excursion and wanted to get the discussion going. I wouldn't expect myself to be leading the trip since it will be my first and I really have no idea where to go or anything. I am up for an overnight trip if others are up for it too!

I'm located in San Diego and would be willing to go anywhere that is stock friendly.

I'll throw the first idea of going to Borrego since I know where that is and it is relatively close to me.

Other ideas?

April is kind of a long ways off in terms of planning, at least around here.

On the other hand, I'll probably be making a few trips out to Anza Borrego over the next couple of months, and I'll often post something a little in advance to see if anyone wants to come along.

If you have a specific date and/or place you might like to go, and want some company or someone who might know the way, you can always ask here and see who might be interested.

Thanks Frank! All I know is that I am completely booked through March every weekend as of right now. The weekend of March 11th is up in the air right now and I can update you on that. In general, I need to plan ahead AT LEAST a few weeks usually. That is reason I am posting up for April.

Hey everyone! Looks like I may have a free day this Sunday, March 6th, so I would love to do a day trip out to Borrego or somewhere to do a little bit of mild, stock friendly wheelin! Let me know!

I was thinking of maybe heading out to Anza Borrego to check on the wildflowers this coming weekend, maybe we can set something up.  We could wander the Buttes Pass / Borrego Mountain Wash area, that is stock friendly and really scenic, with lots of variety in terrain.

What part of San Diego are you in (not that it really matters).

Full disclosure / warning:  I tend to stop a lot for sightseeing and photos. If you're just looking to drive constantly (and fast) across the desert you may get bored following me.

I'm looking to run north towards/through the southern end of Sequoia: Last Chance Canyon, Jawbone, Piute Mountain, Dove Springs, Nightmare Gulch, and Burro Schmidt sort of running the area between Garlock and Isabella Lake in a three day two night run. We'd have access state freeway 14 to meet up halfway through to allow some to make the trip shorter if needed. The rub is the weather in that many of the trails are closed due to the snow pack on the western side up near Piute Mountain. By April or May the weather ought to be good.

I'm also looking for a similar long 3 day/2 night trip through Death Valley running from Independence north and then down south into the north end of Death Valley National.

Both these epic trips need to be done outside of summer, after winter, and between spring storms ... short notice and long weekends.

Frank, a leisurely run sounds fine to me. I just want to get out and do a little off road driving. I haven't done much of any off roading in a truck before so I gotta start SOMEWHERE!

I am located in Santee.

Well if you're in for Sunday then let's plan to go. Sounds like Paul might be there as well, maybe some others.  If you're coming from Santee the best place for us to meet would be Ramona. I generally leave my house around 0800, which puts me in Ramona about 20-25 minutes later. We'll pick a spot later in the week.

If it turns out you can't go please let me know - I might want to switch to Saturday instead - but Sunday is fine if that is best for you.

I'm on for Sunday, and I've edited the other post to indicate a meet time and place for anyone who wants to tag along.
